TLC is a custom designer and builder of new homes and
additions. Established in 1986, we have built over 150 homes across
the state of Connecticut. We build capes, ranches, colonials,
contemporaries and any other custom design. We offer two different
programs to fit everyone's
needs. The first is our
Owner Involvement Program where we construct
the shell on your foundation. This is our most popular and economical
option. We also offer our General Contracting Program for busy
individuals who do not have the time to be as involved in the
construction of their home.
Ted LaChapelle is the Owner/President of TLC Homes. Jane LaChapelle is
the Owner/Vice President. Robyn Rataic is Vice President of Sales and
Project Management.
We are a reputable company as evidenced by our number of years in
business, satisfied customers, rapport with suppliers and our continued
memberships and good standing in the Home Builders Association (HBA),
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and Better Business Bureau
(BBB).

How it’s done:
The most popular choice amongst our clients is our Owner Involvement
Program in which we build the shell portion of your home and act as a
consultant and guide for you throughout the entire process. With this
program, you are able to complete some of the work yourself. The result
is that your home project accrues “sweat equity”, meaning your time and
energy equals money saved, which is money earned.
The process is:
First, we meet with you to determine what style/design (ex. Cape, ranch,
colonial, etc.) home you want and customize it to your specifications.
Next, a cost estimate is created based on your design and
specifications.
Once the cost estimate is completed, a second appointment is made to
review all the information and to make any design/specifications
modifications.
After all changes are completed and you are satisfied with the home
design and cost, an agreement is prepared and executed.
Preliminary blueprints are then drafted for your review and approval.
Then, the final plans are completed and submitted to the building
department. TLC Homes is now prepared to begin shell construction once
your foundation is ready. We also assist in coordinating the
subcontractors necessary for completing your home and TLC will advise
and guide you on what you may be able to complete yourself on the inside
of your new home to add valuable “sweat equity” to your project.
TLC uses reputable contractors who have been doing business with us for
many years and suppliers who provide quality service and materials for
your new home.{Top}
What we offer:
Our most popular option is the Owner Involvement Program. We provide all
the working drawings for your home. You can either choose from a plan we
have on file in the office, bring in a plan that you have found or
designed on your own, or we can design a home with and for you. The
choice is yours.
Other services we provide include a cost specification sheet for
presentation to your bank when seeking mortgage approval, and assistance
with town permits. We also obtain proposals from our subcontractors
based on
your specifications. Most importantly, we provide consulting services
and guidance throughout the entire project and beyond.
With this program, we start from the top of your foundation on up to the
point of being lockable and weather-tight. The shell includes all labor
and materials, such as framing lumber, siding, windows, exterior doors
and roofing. When we are done with our portion of the project, it
appears as a finished product on the outside. On the inside, there is
subflooring, interior partitions/walls, lolly columns and carrying
beams. The home is then ready for rough plumbing and electric to begin.
TLC will recommend a subcontractor for: plumbing, electric, heating,
insulation, sheetrock, etc. You can use the subcontractors we recommend,
shop around, use a friend, or even do the work yourself. Ultimately, the
decision is up to you. We are here to act as a guide and consultant
every step of the way.
The greatest advantage of TLC’s Owner Involvement Program is the option
of completing work yourself so that your project accrues “sweat equity”.
In other words, the time and energy you invest in your home equals money
saved which is money earned. You are able to have project appreciation
by completion.
From conception to completion, we act as a consultant and guide
throughout the entire process. Our Owner Involvement Program enables
anyone to build their own home.
The other option TLC Homes provides is our General Contracting Program.
We act as the G.C. and provide a turnkey project, from start to finish.
This program is appealing to those who don’t have the time or energy to
be involved with the building process.

attention to you. We are able to carefully oversee ALL aspects of the
project – from designing and planning, to building and completing. Our
staff is accessible and has a friendly business style that encourages

lifestyle and budget.
Our warranty guarantees that your shell will be free from significant
defect in workmanship and material for one full year, in addition to any

The Owner Involvement Program allows you to get more home for your

accrues “sweat equity”, meaning your time and energy equals money saved
which is money earned. Our shell program enables you to have project
appreciation by completion, where value and benefit go hand in hand.
